Home Health Aide
Average Hourly Pay Rate: $9 - 14

Home Health Aides provide services to individuals in the home of the care recipient.

Job Description: Supports the care recipient and caregiver so the individual can stay in his or her home. Duties may include grooming, changing linens, feeding, assisting with toilet needs and walking, keeping clients' living area clean and orderly, measuring and recording temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, and reporting changes in patient's physical condition, behavior, or appearance to the nursing supervisor.

Entry-Level Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
Training
  • Certificate of completion from an approved nurse aide training program and registration by the Virginia Department of Health Professionals as a Certified Nurse Aide
    OR
  • Certificate of completion from a professional nursing, practical nursing, or nurse aide training program approved by the Virginia Department of Education, Virginia Department of Health Professionals, or Community College System
    OR
  • Certificate of completion from a home health aide training program approved by the Department of Health prior to July 1, 1984, in continuous practice since that time
Licensure/Education Requirements: For first training option only: Virginia Board of Nursing Certified Nursing Assistant certificate of registration containing a registration number and an expiration date. For second and third option: Certification of completion from nurse aide or home health aide training program.
